Ancient Woe

Ancient Woe

Today was the start of my terrible new life for I turned up at Liselle’s shop Antiquities and had to stand outside it for twenty minutes literally praying that Gervais did not show up to let me in. I was so relieved when Liselle came and opened the doors from the inside leaving me to wonder if she knew I was out there and just ignored me?

She didn’t really say anything to me, she took around and showed me stuff and told me their names but I did not remember most of it, what is a chiffonier anyway, all I saw were a lot of cupboards. After she showed me the stuff we went behind this big huge glass counter that had all these musty little china things in it and she tells me it is locked she has the only key so was to inform anyone who asked they had to wait for her. Also nothing had any prices, the silly witch laughed when I asked how to find the prices, in her imperious Dubois manner she replied that her customers pointed and she delivered.

I didn’t add that would be a miracle as I have never seen any customers in here nor heard of her even buying stuff so maybe this is all really just old furniture from the Dubois Estates and she is having an uber expensive garage sale. She shows me how to use the computer, how to put in addresses and she will enter prices later if anyone buys anything. Then she shows me a book to write in any questions and a stool I can sit on so I have no idea why she hired me as there is nothing to do! All day I am to sit on this stool in case someone comes in and write down their name after they point at something-- what sort of job is this? Now I am the pointer girl and this is not exactly something you can tell another employer, “Oh my last boss was from the lunatic Dubois family all she taught me was how to read pointers.”

By now I am despairing for my sanity and I think, ok, I will stay here a month then tell Mother that Liselle is mean or something and leave or complain about Gervais a lot, that way Mother will feel so guilty she will leave me alone. My day would not be complete without a visit from creepy Gervais as he popped around to see how the new girl was doing and while he was here he had to squish himself behind the counter with Liselle and me. There was no room and he was invading my personal space, which is like three miles where Gervais is concerned, he was all oily and oozing and smarmy and smiling and icky icky icky! Liselle must be blind or so crazy she doesn’t notice that Gervais creeps everyone out and why does he want to squish behind a counter anyway, he is gay, it is obvious to everyone in the world he is gay and I don’t care how many women he sleeps with, he is gay, gay, gay, which is fine to be, just don’t be smarmy all beside me.

After being tormented for an hour by Gervais asking me every single thing about my life, about Tiah and Royce, his gorgeous friend Caspar Royale came in and he is really hot. If he wasn’t so old—he is like thirty or something—I would go for him cause he is all charming and knows to keep his distance. He and Gervais left, probably to pick out satin for Taryn’s Opener as why else would someone invite Gervais anywhere? I wonder what Cameo will do for Bianca’s one as it is supposed to compete with whatever Caspar is doing. Mother told me we are not going to Bianca’s thingy as she will buy tickets to make us look like we are supporting the charity but on the day she is going to be sick with one of her “headaches” for Mother’s answer to conflict is illness.

I wanted to go just to see who turned up but it is not worth the grief it would entail for me to get there. At the end of a very long day doing nothing, with absolutely no customers, I sat there waiting for Liselle to tell me when the shop was closed but she wandered off into the back room and when she came back she acted surprised to still see me there. She waved me away saying she would see me tomorrow, oh woe is me, I am stuck between the devil and his mistress.
