Luck Was a Lady Tonight

Gervais Dubois really needs to get sent to the loony bin, he spent the entire day following me about the shop just smiling at me, the creepy little smile that made me want to smack the Dubois right out of him. I almost told Liselle to tie her brother to passing bus, anything to get rid of him as he kept asking me if he could help me in some way until I wanted to scream. I know he is just doing it to annoy me but honestly he is the type of guy they would get to portray a serial killer in a movie, he is just so insidious and smarmy despite being a handsome guy. Liselle must be either brain dead, blind or insane not to notice what he is doing for no matter where I went he was there right behind me, practically breathing down my neck, invading my space and making me feel icky all over, the way damp air gets in your house on a rainy day.

Some pointers finally came into the shop and which relieved me, you would think Liselle would at least leave her back room to aid the pointers but instead she is sitting there leafing through a Marie Claire mag and waving me aside with a hand. So I go back to talk to the pointers and Gervais is talking to them, the poor people! I don’t know what it is about Gervais but he can sort of suggest things to people without them realizing he is leading them along so in the end he had these pointers convinced if they did not take this really awful table home they would not be elite enough to discern what a true antique is, or something of the sort. I was just about to show them this really pretty little table made of rosewood when Gervais dumped the monstrosity on them. Liselle seemed pleased which makes me wonder yet again why she keeps me on she should just get her brother to con people for her.

Coco came by at lunch but could not bring herself to come in as she loitered outside for a bit but I am still ignoring her so I started talking to Gervais. One thing I learned about Gervais is that he is curious like a cat, he is always poking his nose someplace so if you want to distract him just start telling him something personal. So I decided to tell him about Chantal, not that it’s a secret or anything as the entire town knows about Tony and Nadia, I decided to tell him about her coming over and doing the loud sprackle with Mother. This kept him entertained long enough for Coco to give up and wander off so I guess she is discovering life in the skate shop is not so grand after all. Still I wish it was her here with Gervais, the way she can zone out she would never notice he is here. When we were at school Coco could sit for an entire lesson staring into space, doing nothing and it was almost magical how she could remain in whatever world she was in yet be oblivious to the entire room full of people. It takes a special talent to be able to shut the world out the way Coco does.

As soon as I arrive home my phone rings, which means Tiah wants to have some sort of hush-hush probably about whatever ticked her off that day, maybe she broke a nail or someone at the spa was rude to her. Sometimes I think Tiah needs to get in a life before discussing life. I was tired at having to fend off Gervais all day so I told her I would call her back and shut my phone off. I didn’t notice Mother standing in the foyer and she looked at me strangely and asked if everything was all right with me. Now Mother has never been the most observant of people, in fact she used to be famous for leaving me at school and forgetting to pick me up so much so that when Father was alive he was resigned to hiring a car service to come get me. I really did not want to discuss the horror of Gervais with her so I just put her off and went upstairs to lie down. It was not until I was lying on my bed that I realized that life had actually implemented my plan for me, for Gervais really was doing what I was about to accuse him of and Mother was already concerned about my well-being. Perhaps lady luck was going to smile on me after all!
