Chain of Command

Today Maria Baggio, Chantal’s secretary came in and started telling Jojo all these things he needed to do. I was amazed that he just sat there listening and not telling her to get lost which is pretty much what he says to every other staff member that tries to get him to behave. He was almost polite to Maria and did exactly what she asked, not that she was rude or anything, they were just very polite to each other and then got back to work.

Courtesy is not exactly big on the Sedero list of social niceties as Chantal will order people about and then run off without caring how they took her commands. Jazz flits in and out only helping when they are understaffed and Jojo escapes whenever he can which is often. He tends to abscond during the lunch shift where he is supposed to start his day but as most of the extreme sporting thingies are during the day he has a serious conflict of interest going on, well that is not exactly true as Jojo has zero interest in the restaurant and lots of interest in sports.

Today I threatened to tell his mother if he dared run off in the middle of lunch and after seeing how he acted with Maria maybe she is the one I should threaten to tell. Tony came in just before lunch and found me alone out the back filling out some requisites, I write down what we are low on and Chantal gets Maria to order it. He finds me stuck in this little back room that we use as an office as Chantal has a really nice big office upstairs and from the minute he came in I started to feel squeamish, after all he is old enough to be my father. He starts fiddling with things and asking me how I like working there and I had to bite my tongue as I nearly asked him what he actually did there himself.

I have not seen Tony do anything connected to the restaurant except interview the new staff after Chantal had already hired them, and it seemed that the restaurant was his own personal playground. I am surprised that he has not been reported to Chantal for annoying girls but I guess lots of them think being with Tony will get them a better job or something but anyone who spends any time here will soon learn that Chantal is the power behind Sedero’s. A few minutes after Tony entered the office Jazz comes in and gives her father such a look I cannot describe, it was one of concern, hate and almost fear. I was totally relieved that she was there and started asking her all sorts of questions about acting to keep her there as I was terrified she would leave me alone with Tony. I don’t know what is between the two of them but Tony makes a bit of small talk and leaves quickly.

Looking really unhappy Jazz asks me why her father was there and I played dumb because we both knew what he was doing, instead I told her that I had no clue as there was no paperwork for him to out back. She gave me a really hard look and asked me how things were with Jojo which was a bit strange as anyone could tell by my scowling at him how things were. I told her that Jojo would be fine if he stopped pulling faces and took more than extreme sports seriously but Jazz being a devoted sister defended him and said he took sports very seriously and if I had ever talked to him without judging I could see it was his passion. I got a bit miffed at this and replied of course I talked to him that is how I found out all he talks about are extreme sports but what he really needed was a good smack and some decent clothes. This made Jazz laugh which confused me and reminded me at the same time how alike she and Jojo were, for one they both laughed at my assertions about him needing a good smack.—this family certainly has an odd streak!

Maria came into the office and asked for some forms, and I was hoping she would ask me where Jojo was so I could complain that he had absconded again but she probably knew this already as not much gets passed Maria. Chantal started calling her and they went off into a huddle with Cameo Larsen who had dropped by with a list of things she required for Bianca’s charity luncheon. Jojo came back later in a good mood, making jokes and winking at the waitresses which make me cranky as, so I told him he should be ashamed at abandoning me to do the lunch alone and he should stop flirting with every woman he sees and help me out.

I was really angry that he just walks out whenever he likes as I hardly know this job and I pointed out that it is unfair to ask someone who has just walked into a job, even if it is a pretend one, as I have no illusions about how my mother and Chantal created this job for me, to cope with the entire lunch crowd alone. Actually I coped just fine as there were no dramas and the rest of the staff are quite efficient but I was not going to let Jojo know this as he almost looked contrite. He offered to take me out for a drink after work but I told him I would rather suck a dead mouse which made him laughed for ages and pull faces at me for the rest of the day. I decided that I had to call Tiah tomorrow and have a serious conversation with Royce about starting a business with Jojo as poor Royce thinks he is getting a partner when in reality he will wind up with monkey boy and his amazing faces.
