Sons and Lovers

Sons and Lovers

Well today Tiah managed to track down both Coco and me it seems only to have a rant about Braith and Jazz, then she decided to interrogate us about it for hours. First she questioned Coco as if she was drunk or something coming out of the spa and even Coco who is not the most assertive person got tired enough to tell her that if she caught her brother kissing a donkey next time she can just hear it from someone else. This shut Tiah up but only for a minute and then she kept talking on and on as if she could not believe what she was hearing.

We were walking down Fitzbay the main street of Bishop Vale when we came to Liselle’s shop now usually we try to cross the road here in case that creepy Gervais is about. He always manages to corner us and then tries to goad us into telling him personal things he can humiliate us with later. It’s pretty easy for him to trick Coco as she is not the sharpest pencil in the case and he can usually goad Tiah into stuff by comparing her to Jazz or Zizi (who is another story entirely). I usually mange to keep my mouth shut around him as once you have been got at by Gervais you tend to keep to yourself. He likes nothing better than to reveal embarrassing things about you in front of the very people you don’t want to know about your private life.

Anyway Tiah had kept us so occupied with her interrogation we suddenly found to our horror that we had stopped right outside Antiquities, this is the name of Liselle’s shop. The door opened and we all froze with dread until we saw Liselle come out, now facing creepy Gervais is one thing but Liselle is totally another. She is like the ice queen in that fairy tale a remote beauty so perfect it is hard to tell if she is real or just a vision. It can be a thousand degrees out but Liselle will be cool, it can pour with rain out but Liselle arrives dry with her hair, her makeup and her clothes are always perfect and she is never seen showing any emotion for even her smile is cool and distant. Men would stop talking when she entered a room probably afraid she will look through them cause she can look right through people in the scariest way, Liselle scares everyone even Tiah and she is her mother’s best friend!

So Liselle nods to us and walks off someplace and we all like breathe a sigh of relief for what can you say to a Dubois? The Vanderhavens are people you cross if you want your butt kicked, but the Dubois are people you cross if you want to leave town in a hurry and even creepy Gervais at thirty has more power in Bishop Vale than Jago Vanderhaven. You would think they would openly lord it over everyone but they never do which makes them even more creepy how quiet they are. I guess that is the difference between money power and real power, real power never has to show its muscles.

After the Liselle encounter we have to go to Djini’s to refresh, the day was becoming all too much and who do we run into there but Braith having a lunch with some old school friend. Even though we try to stop her Tiah goes up to Braith and says, is it true about you and her but Braith just smiles that older brother smile that makes her look about five again and she comes back to the table fuming. She starts taking stuff from her purse and banging it on the table muttering how she is not going to be the one to break it to Taryn. After the entire Bianca thing I don’t blame her after all some burdens a son can carry by himself.
