New And Improved

I came into work to find this strange man counting the bottles behind the main bar as I was about to ask who he was he turned and I was found myself facing Jojo. Gone was all the military rubbish, he was sleek and smooth in casual designer and looking every inch a Sedero.

I waited for him to apologise for taking off yesterday but he said nothing at all instead he walked around with a big stupid grin on his face and winked at all the waitresses until they giggled stupidly. Chantal was all fizzed to see Jojo acting normally and kept looking in and smiling at his change while he smiled and chatted to everyone but me-- I was invisible to him and he avoided going anywhere I was standing. If I thought the morning was bad the day was about to get much, much worse.

The lunch crowd came in and Lynx floated in on her usual waft of hauteur and perfume, once she saw Jojo she smiled her confident cool smile and he glued himself to her table in seconds. The fact that he sat down in the middle of his shift leaving the rest of us to cover for him didn’t seem to bother either him and Chantal was not around to see her precious boy in all his lazy glory. She was so pleased by his sudden change in wardrobe and absence of scowl that he was able to do whatever he liked and Jojo liked Lynx as it was pretty obvious to anyone looking he was completely under her thumb.

I could barely stand the disgusting spectacle they made and hid out in the back room until Chantal made me follow her about filling in papers. By the time Chantal had finished with me Jojo and Lynx were long gone and the topic of gossip for the rest of the staff. One of the waitresses gushed that they had all thought Jojo was sweet on me because he had been so protective when Gervais was around but they all now agreed they had mistaken his chivalry for interest when it is obvious he was smitten by Lynx Garcelle, after all she was more on his level.

I wanted to remind those smug little cows that my family had been one of the founding families of Bishop Vale and I only had to work because Mother decided it would build my character, instead it broke my heart. I kept quiet and left her to whatever romantic fantasies she was cultivating about Jojo and Lynx because I was not about to make my emotions a public spectacle.

My world had fallen apart enough for one day so after work I decided to go straight home as I could not face anyone in Djini’s, the truth is I was afraid that Jojo and Lynx might be there as well. I could not face seeing him like putty in her hands as he was the stupidest creature alive and I hated him for falling for her obvious games.

To my surprise Royce was waiting for me in the parking lot and he looked like he had been waiting for a long time. He had heard about Lynx and Jojo and was upset about the entire sordid affair, at first I was touched thinking he cared about how I felt. Until he went on to explain that Lynx was controlling Jojo and it put their work in jeopardy. Even though it was obvious she was pulling his strings I did not want to get into the discussion, I told him to relax they had only been together two days and Jojo was just excited. Royce said Jojo had called him and said he was thinking of changing his entire career direction as he had to consider other things than just playing games. My jaw dropped open in shock, Jojo renouncing extreme sports, she had managed to do the impossible she had reformed him in a day. Royce could not believe that Jojo would have tossed aside a lifelong friendship for a tarty actress and I would have agreed only Jojo had tossed me aside in about ten seconds. I was in no mood to comfort Royce or help him get Jojo out of her clutches as he did not appear to have any empathy for anything I might be going through. I told him he had to work it out for himself as Jojo was not about to listen to anything I had to say. He looked surprised and I thought how stupid can you get, if he is sleeping with Lynx it’s obvious she is the one with influence.

I left Royce and drove home to find Mother burning the wires with Chantal as no doubt they were all fizzed over the new, improved Jojo and I went to go upstairs when Mother hung up and waved me over. It seems that Chantal was not at all happy when she found out Jojo had been slinking off with Lynx, she had thought his new change was because of me! I was getting a little tired of everyone thinking that Jojo and I had any sort of understanding and I told Mother that Jojo Sedero was as creepy as Gervais Dubois and went upstairs and locked my door. I turned off my phone as far as I was concerned the entire world could go to hell. My life had taken one turn for the worse after another as I had been stalked by Gervais, tormented by Liselle, nagged by Tiah, hit on by Tony, shouted at by Chantal, laughed at by Caspar, whined at by Nadia, ignored by Royce, used by Jazz and Braith, and destroyed by Jojo. Tomorrow I would resign from Sedero’s as I had enough of that family to last a lifetime.
