Start->Chapter 2->Episode 18 To Gervais
I went to work and managed to find enough to do in the back office so that I did not have to face anyone in the dining room. The lunch crowd started and Lynx swans in acting the gracious diva which caused Jojo to go all mushy at the sight of her and of course ran off to ignore his work. I thought forget this, I am not covering for him any more and if his mother is too stupid to see what a lazy shit he is well that is her problem. I went out the back and did not come out the rest of the day cause I didn’t care if anyone was looking for me as I was not going to watch those two carry on in front of me. I wish I had handled things differently with Jojo I know I said didn’t want to start anything but I never thought he was going to run off in ten seconds and it felt awful to know I had no meaning at all in his life. One of the girls found me and said Chantal was looking for me as she was not too pleased about Jojo and Lynx and she did not support this relationship at all.
Jojo was dressed in his designer clothes and looking all successful businessman while Lynx was immaculate in her makeup, conscious of all the attention her presence caused. Lynx was not averse to ensuring every man in viewing distance knew she was gracing them with her company and it was obvious to everyone there that Jojo was in her pocket ready to do anything she wanted. I never could have got him out of his awful clothes yet in a few days she had managed to get him to go from meatnut to taking his future seriously and it taught me that the sexual power of a beautiful woman will always win.
As I looked for Chantal I saw Gervais at his usual table and I could not take the sight of him sitting there grinning like an evil demon so I went out to the back office again and waited for Chantal to find me. Lunch ended and Chantal came out looking for me with a black look on her face and I thought that I was not about to endure her shouting at me just because she was unhappy with the mess Jojo was getting himself into. Before she could start I told her I quit due to personal issues and I had to leave. I thanked her for the job opportunity but I was no longer able to work there, I grabbed my purse and left before the shift even ended. I ran out to the parking lot, got in my car and drove away without looking back so that was the end of my employment with Sedero Entertainment Restaurants and the end of anything I had with Jojo Sedero. Life was not showing me any kindness lately.
I went to Djini’s to find Coco and Royce having coffee and something I had not thought possible for them, a serious conversation. Coco waved me over and I reluctantly sat down with them even though I had no idea why I came to Djini’s as I was not in a fit state to chat to people. I guess it was because if I had gone home I would have had to face Mother and her million questions. I did not doubt for a second that Chantal had burned the wires to Mother calling her up and telling her how I had quit. I knew that if Coco and Royce started being all soppy I would have to leave but Royce started by apologising for the other day saying he did not understand why Jojo was so crazy over Lynx that he would even throw away their business and our friendship.
I felt a bit sorry for Royce as he had been best friends with Jojo his entire life and here he was left in the cold with me over a second rate soap star with an entire plastic body. Coco held his hand and told me that Lynx was now making all Jojo’s decisions and even had hung up the phone on Royce when he had called him and no one seemed to be able to get through to Jojo that Lynx was bad news. I said the only person who could call Lynx off would be Gervais as they had lunch together often and I was not about to approach him. Coco shivered said that neither she nor Royce thought anyone could get Lynx to do anything that positive, it was not the lady’s nature to be helpful. No one mentioned anything about me and Jojo and I didn’t know whether to be grateful or upset about how I was inconsequential to everyone, including my friends.
I left Djini’s and drove slowly home knowing that the second I entered the door Mother would start with endless questions and prying comments until I locked myself upstairs. I was not to be disappointed as Mother reacted exactly how I thought she would, she started by being incredulous I had left work without any notice, she moved into anger at my ungrateful behaviour after she had arranged for me to get the job and finally she ended being perplexed at my inability to hold down a job.
I wanted to shout this was rich coming from someone who had never worked a day in her life but that would have only made her worse. I told her that Jojo had not worked once since he ran off with Lynx and I was tired of covering for him and lying to his mother. I explained that Chantal did not have a clue about Jojo running off to carnivals and sports events and leaving me to cope. Mother tilted her head and said that Chantal knew exactly what Jojo did and was hoping I would have an influence on him as he paid attention to me. I could not believe this crap, why did everyone think I had any sort of influence over Jojo for God’s sake I could not even get him to show up to work. I shouted at her that the only person with influence over Jojo was a painted television whore who was using him just for something to do. The house phone interrupted me and Mother answered it and then handed it over to me. I said a puzzled hello to hear a man’s voice introduce himself, it was Caspar Royale and he was offering me a job, if I had ever needed proof the universe was demented this was it!
