The Royale Touch

Today I met Caspar Royale at Djini’s and as he sort of rambled on about what he wanted me to do I wondered why we met at a Café instead of an office but Caspar didn’t seem to be organized at all. It was the first time I had spoken to him like a person instead of a kid gawking at him from over a latte and when I started to ask him questions he started spouting answers that made no sense.

It seems that Caspar has an office but wanted to make sure I really wanted the job before dragging me down there. He also seemed to be under the impression I didn’t know what he did so I had to remind him that I had just spent the last few weeks being shouted at by Cameo as she set up her luncheon stuff so he then backtracked and said of course it was why he noticed me.

Here is where it gets a bit weird as Caspar has never done anything but look right through me as he has this knack of speaking to you while scanning the room for more important people. I never really liked it but being he was the local hunk and knew absolutely everyone I never said anything about it. I knew Caspar met Gervais at university and somehow they became friends and he brought Caspar to Bishop Vale like some sort of prize. The women went mad over him and the guys quickly spread the rumour that he was gay, after all no one could be that good looking, suave and elegant and not be gay. Caspar tried to put the rumour to bed by having a very public, very sexual affair with Lynx Garcelle with an amused Gervais looking on, however it never did quite die down. The Lynx/ Caspar association did his business no harm as they were the golden couple invited to all the local premiers and parties. Everyone buzzed with gossip about this exciting couple until Lynx did one of her famous dumpings by running off with some French billionaire for six months

Caspar consoled himself with various love affairs with prominent, single and married women and soon became the local Casanova. However there were still whispers about his close relationship with Gervais as everyone was pretty certain he was bisexual as he would court beautiful and men the same way. Only no one had ever delved too deeply into his relationships for it doesn’t serve you well to pry too much into the history of a Dubois.

At first the way he was so offhand I didn’t think he required an assistant but when he was raving on about various jobs and got everything mixed up I realised that maybe he did. I had never done anything like this but how hard can it be to write down people’s names and the date of their events? Ever since the Spring Opener it seems every old bood in town had hired him for something and so he was run off his feet trying to keep up with everything that was going on. He didn’t know of my ulterior motive which was to show Jojo that I had moved on and not just moved on but that I was in the company of the most gorgeous guy in town. Not that I really wanted to be with Caspar he was like old like Gervais, like nearly thirty. I mean Jojo was a couple of years older than me and that was about as far as I was going to go. I told Caspar I would be happy to work for him and when should I start which made Caspar looked really surprised and then he got himself together. He said he would buy me an electronic organiser and I could meet him at his offices tomorrow morning. He gave me his address which was his house as he worked from home, everyone knew where he lived so why he couldn’t tell me that is beyond me but I just shut up until he left.

Coco and Royce came in and sat down and of I often wondered at their timing as if they had been lurking outside or something. Coco asked what happened and I told her I was working for someone who might even be stranger than Liselle so she demanded all the details and I told her that Caspar acted like he had no idea what my job was or what work he had or anything. He didn’t even bother telling me his offices were in his house, I just recognised the address. Coco said this was a good move as Jojo will freak out once he sees I am with Caspar all the time but I told her not to hold her breath as Jojo can’t see past Lynx right now.

Royce called Lynx an evil controlling bitch and wanted to go on but I pointed out that Jojo was being controlled because he wanted to since neither his parents nor his sister could control him at all. Royce scowled and said Jojo would have been better off staying with me and I explained to Royce that Jojo and I had never been together, he had only once rescued me from Gervais to which Royce gave me a funny look and shook his head. I left him and Coco to work on their Jojo problems as he was no longer my concern because I was about to enter an entirely new world working for the most eligible bachelor in Bishop Vale and he was weirder than the Dubois or the Sedero I had been working for, the fun was just beginning.
