Start->Chapter 2->Episode 5 To Gervais
Tonight I put on this antique dress of Mother’s that I found in the back of her closet listening to her grumble as she was not so pleased about me going to dinner at the Vanderhaven’s, in fact she is never pleased about that. She usually moans and stuff about how our family are friends with the Sedero’s and then I point out she is friends with the Sedero’s and I just want to party with my friends.
Tiah said she, Coco, Royce, Braith and a few other people her mother had invited were going to be there so I expected it would be a pleasant night even though the guys would hate dressing up for dinner. I quite like going to dinner parties as I like how everyone sits down and talks about stuff well mostly gossips about people who are not there and I expected there to be lots of gossip about Bianca and her luncheon so I might have to do a Coco and plead that I am completely out of loop. I know Taryn only gets me invited so she can pump me for information about Chantal but luckily I don’t have any information about Chantal to tell, although I could tell her a thing or two about her son Braith and what he gets up to with Jazz.
I got there late because Mother decided to have a little moanfest before I left and even took to rubbing her knees again but I managed to become totally unobservant and get out the door. When I got there everyone had been on the back terrace having drinks and were about to enter the dining room, Tiah grabbed me and was sprackling so much I couldn’t make head or tails of what she was saying until I saw the object of her hysteria! Elyce Dubois, the witch herself was standing all confident, creepy and ever so Dubois beside Royce who looked miserable in a suit. Braith stood with them half smiling at Royce’s discomfort, no doubt he was pleased as anything for this took the focus off him and what he was doing in his private life. Oh and it gets worse, Elyce is not alone as right behind her is Liselle looking glacial as usual, immaculate, beautiful and frozen in her own little universe but the hell would not be complete without her walking nightmare of a brother, creepy Gervais to make it a nice Dubois trifecta.
Gervais was looking all bored until he saw me and then he did his trademark creepy smile until my skin began to crawl, I just knew he was going to edge over to me as soon as he could. Taryn was all grand dame and insisted that Elyce sit beside Royce who said as little as he could through the entire dinner. Elyce was not one to be outdone and had become already proprietorial with her hand on his arm, bending in to talk to him and laughing at everything he said. I am so glad this did not happen last week or I would have drowned in fury watching the carnivorous bitch claim him, however I had bigger problems right then. Gervais decided he was going to sit beside me and do an Elyce, my skin still crawls at the memory of him squishing his chair right up to mine when there were acres of room. He then decided to comment on every bit of food, not that it mattered as I could hardly swallow anything, he waved the steward over to pour me wine so I stopped drinking then he kept touching and rubbing my arm until I wanted to scream.
Once I looked up to see Liselle gazing at me over the top of her wine glass and if I didn’t know any better I would swear she looked as if she was paying attention to what her brother was up to but then she has had years of faking attention to the world around her. I wondered what she thought of Taryn charming Elyce like she was the greatest thing to happen to Royce and acting like this dinner was all Royce’s idea with Royce glaring at his mother like she was out of her mind. Jago was nowhere in sight and had he been there he would have been of little help to Royce as he would have only chatted to Liselle. Those two just live in their own world when they are together it’s like none of us exist which makes me wonder if maybe they are doing their school romance thingy over again—old people romance—ugh!
Braith was grinning like a monkey at the misery on his brother’s face, perhaps he has been hanging with Jojo too much and Tiah was fizzing ready to pop. Coco was transfixed by Gervais, practically dropping things when he looked her way and I could tell he knew he terrified her for just when she would relax he would either look her way or address her so she would freeze up again. These Dubois could all use a nice kick up the backside if you ask me as they think far too much of themselves.
By the end of the night I was past all social niceties and was now giving Gervais the look of death which only served to amuse him. as the lovely evening I had looked forward to wound up consisting of the Dubois family torturing people. Braith had a friend over who kept trying to flirt with Coco but she was too busy being terrified by Gervais to notice. Taryn had a few old boods at the other end of the table who kept speaking in loud voices about the sweetness of young romance while we all sat there frozen in our own personal nightmares, well except for the Dubois' faction who apparently reside in hell and were quite at home!
