Start->Chapter 3->Episode 1 To Gervais
I returned to work to discover that Caspar had not even noticed me gone so I got caught up with the emails, straightened everything out and decided I was not going to even tell him for if I barely existed enough to be noticed there or gone that was his problem. Since I had offered to take messages from Taryn about her stupid party I technically was not absent so he could go soak his head and I sat there soaking in self pity for the entire morning with very little to do as the others had taken over the setting up.
As they ran back and forth cursing everyone because everything was someone else’s fault I answered the phone, generally passed on messages, it was boring and miserable and I wanted to sink into the bowels of the earth. The afternoon however was a different matter as I got to see a soap opera without even leaving my desk as I sat at my desk too despondent to even consider lunch when Bianca came storming in her face purple with anger. She demanded to see Caspar and before he could slink out a side door she started on about his little interludes with Cameo, Caspar opened his mouth to say something, who knows what, when Cameo comes roaring in, no doubt to warn him about Bianca being on the warpath.
Then the two women had a slanging match with Caspar sitting mutely horrified in the middle while Bianca showed she was not the wife of a sex shop king for nothing and gave Cameo a verbal bashing using curse words I never even heard before. Cameo of course was used to the rants of society boods and was cutting and vicious but vicious didn’t work on Bianca who was tough as nails. All they needed was to add Ladonna to the mix and I think the town would have melted under their vitriol. Caspar slunk down in the sofa while the two women threw insults at each other and I wondered why neither of them thought to ask themselves why they were fighting over someone who made it his business to sleep with everything around him!
Cameo’s phone rang and she stomped out completely immune to how ludicrous it was that she had sat in the office of her business rival shouting at one of his girlfriends. Bianca stayed as if she had triumphed over Cameo and proceeded to deafen Caspar with her complaints. I really did not understand her at all, first of all Caspar had dumped her to do Taryn's affair but she continues to sleep with him, now he is sleeping with Cameo and she continues to sleep with him. She spends her entire life trying to buy her way into a social set that will never ever accept her because her money came from her husband’s string of sex shops maybe her past means she can only have toxic relationships.
I sat quietly at my desk hoping to remain invisible as Bianca didn’t appear to care she was broadcasting her private life all over the place and the rest of the staff were out doing a setup. When Caspar finally got a word in he suggested they go for lunch which made Bianca beam with pleasure and finally shut up. I wonder if her husband knows about all the rubbishy things she does or perhaps he is just glad she is out of his hair. I know I wouldn’t want to be spending too much time with someone as loud as her because she is not loud in the amusing naughty way that Ladonna is, Bianca tends to be loud in the “ I have lots of money so do what I want” sort of way. Tiah used to called them supermarket millionaires who were still shopping in the bargain aisles and for once I think she got it right.
After they left I was left alone and was sinking slowly into misery when Ladonna, who oddly I had been thinking about, came in unannounced. At first I panicked because if she had wanted to go through a million samples Caspar was probably unreachable again and I didn’t have a clue how to advise her. She swept in wearing sixteen pieces of conflicting jewelry, it was lucky her chauffeur drove her everywhere or she would be a target for thieves, if they were game enough to take on six foot of Dubois danger. She topped the ensemble off with a fur coat that made her look as wide as she was tall, not that Ladonna was in any way slim but this fur was outrageous and some sort of glitter makeup that a fourteen year old girl might find attractive. I started to tell her that Caspar was not about and she waved him aside as if he was not important then sat down in the middle of the sofa and patted the seat beside her. I squeezed myself in and waited nervously for whatever outlandish idea she was about to come up with.
Ladonna was not crazy today, she was completely serious and a bit scary as she gave me a very stern look before asking me if I didn’t hear her the other day? I was a little confused until I remember how she said Gervais had my scent and I would have told her that Gervais had my scent months ago when I had worked for his sister but she kept speaking without a break. She shook her head and said whatever I was doing with Gervais I was to stop before it got out of control and I told her it was already out of control for I couldn’t stop it as I was not the one doing anything. She shook her head then asked if there was anywhere else I could go for a while so I explained that since my father had died I was the only one Mother had left. I also told her that if I were to disappear someone else would get Gervais in their life, someone who couldn’t deal with him which made her snort “And you think you can?” I knew I couldn’t at all but there was nothing I could do, the deal had been set. Ladonna looked at me sadly and said that she would keep an eye out for me but she had limitations after all she was a Dubois as well. I thanked her and realised that the pit I had fallen into was a lot deeper and darker than I had expected.
