Abandoned

Today to add to my utter heartbreak I discovered Jojo and Royce had left town from Coco who called me in tears because he did not take her with him. He said she would be completely bored and asked her instead to look around for a place for to live when he returned. She didn’t understand why he would think it was fine to leave his fiancé right after announcing their engagement and thought he might be having cold feet.

I was so miserable that I didn’t have the energy to prop her up so I told her that it was only an engagement and that they had not planned any wedding things so he was far from getting cold feet. She seemed reassured by this and asked me if Jojo had said anything to me before he left and I told her that I no longer spoke to Jojo Sedero so conversation of him bored me to death. She snorted—this is becoming an annoying habit of hers and told me to lie to someone else since she was not buying it. I just shut up about Jojo and asked what Tiah was up to and Coco said all Tiah could talk about was how Zizi was trying to steal her father away. Even though Tiah wouldn’t pay attention to her father even if she fell over him I could understand how she felt, since Jojo had pretty much thrown me away too. I did not have the energy to call up Tiah as I did not want to listen to her raving on about her father and Zizi for if she did I would probably have told her to make her peace with Zizi and live with it. However Tiah was raised by Taryn who was a woman not about to allow anything that was hers, be taken by anyone else even if she didn’t want him.

Work had been a quiet day with Caspar nowhere in sight, no doubt due to the little fracas I had with Gervais yesterday and Simon for some odd reason had decided to glue himself to me. He would stand like a big mountain in the doorway while checking out the room and the first few times I was startled by his presence but as I became busy I stopped noticing his periodic checking up on me. I knew Caspar had not organised this because he was weak as anything against Gervais so it was nice that someone in the entire world showed an interest in my well-being.

After Coco’s whining phone call I fled work not being able to deal with any of Caspar’s stupid women and went home to hide upstairs in my bedroom. After an hour Mother wandered in and I knew from her face that she was about to do her concerned mother/daughter talk thingy. It’s not that she doesn’t care, it’s that what she believes will make me happy is so utterly pointless that I want to scream and I wish she had done one thing in her life besides attending dinner parties so she could give me insight about something, anything in this world.

Mother fussed around for a few minutes before sitting on the edge of my bed. She started by saying that Chantal had told her about Jojo leaving for the circuit and I said what he did with his life had no affect on me. This caused her came out of her clouds long enough to give me a very intent look that made me pay attention for Mother was not one who often gave sharp looks. She traced the pattern on my bedspread with her fingertip and said that she didn’t know why Jojo and I were having problems but whatever it was she could offer me support if I would just open up to her.

Poor Mother, she had no idea that the big bad wolf lived in Bishop Vale and his name was Gervais Dubois. I was not about to burst her bubble so I replied that there was nothing to tell, Jojo Sedero was a nasty little boy and I wanted none of him. She seemed satisfied and left me alone to contemplate my future, odd thing is that I didn’t appear to have one.
