Bring in the Clowns

Bring in the Clowns

Caspar was in a sulk today because the big news around town was that Tony and Chantal had made up it seems that Nadia’s announcement had Tony off the hook and Chantal deciding to believe whatever story he told her has taken him back. They were enjoying a very public second honeymoon all over town and Caspar had to hear about it from the gossip of Claudia. The news made him slam the door to his office and as the rest of us giggled behind our hands as it’s not like he didn’t have another hundred old boods to fill her place it’s just that Caspar likes to be the one who leaves.

Chantal hadn’t given him the time of day when she took Tony back and I think it was good he got a taste of his own medicine. I had known about the news before leaving the house as Mother and Chantal had been burning the wires before I had even got out of bed and Mother told me that she was very happy that Chantal and Tony had made up as Jazz could use family support at this moment. I was meeting Jazz after work as we were going to do some retail therapy and buy as much worthless junk as we could to make ourselves feel better.

I had another great lunch with Simon who inserted his mountainous self in front of my desk and asked if I wanted a lift to Djini’s and I happily accepted. We had a really nice lunch with me doing all of the talking and him sitting relaxed in his chair smiling. His type of relaxed was different to the relaxed of Royce and Jojo for they were never bothered by the rest of the world because they weren’t interested in it, all the mattered to them were extreme sports and if they were not watching someone hurl themselves off a cliff they were watching it on TV.

Simon was like he had made a decision about the world and whatever was driving everyone else was not driving him. Maybe it was being apart from his father he didn’t have to worry about the family business the way Braith had to or the way Jojo was not going to. I started to notice things about Simon today that I hadn’t noticed before, like he didn’t sprackle about anything, instead he would just smile but not in the creepy “I know something you don’t know” Gervais way, more of an accepting the world way. He has really nice hands, not the sort of hands you would expect from someone who shifts stuff about and he is really buff, probably from lifting stuff and even though he is huge he moves well, like an athlete does.

I tried to get him to talk about stuff but he would always turn the conversation around to me, my friends, and my war with Gervais. I told him about dusting for Liselle and he laughed which made me scowl at him so he laughed even more. I wanted to ask him about why he didn’t speak to his father but we had did not know each other long enough so I talked about everyone I knew and what had been happening. I knew he wanted to ask me more about Gervais and the deal about Jojo but I kept fussing til he gave up. There was no point in telling him the truth as there was nothing he could do. No matter how rich or dangerous your family was, the Dubois are far richer and far more dangerous.

I decided I could not let anyone else climb into this boat with me and I had to take care of Gervais on my own. I told Simon about Mother being close friends with Chantal and that’s how I came to work for her and he added “Where you met Jojo?” I said no, I had grown up playing with Jazz and Jojo but he was always just monkey boy to me. Simon raised an eyebrow and asked what was he now and I said nothing, nothing at all. Simon gave me a look that said he didn’t believe me but I said nothing more about Jojo as there was nothing more to say.

Later at the of the day who walks in work but Coco, looking lost and forlorn for Tiah was in hiding since Taryn was fizzing about the breakup, Braith wouldn’t speak to anyone and Jago had wandered off with Astrid. Without Tiah no one interested in Coco’s unhappiness at being without Royce so she decided to give me the benefit of her grief. She looked so sad I invited her to go out for some retail therapy with Jazz and me and all three of us met up in the mall and after several hours of spending too much money on junk none of us really wanted we wandered Northside for dinner.

Even though there was a Sedero’s there we opted for a nice vegetarian café and enjoyed being girls for once. When Coco heard about me having lunch about Simon she wanted to know everything about him and I told her what little I knew then she and Jazz teased me the rest of the night saying I had a string of guys. I knew that despite all our giggling each one of us was secretly focused on the heartbreak we were poorly concealing from each other.
