Start->Chapter 3->Episode 8 To Gervais
Today was day two of trying to work out how to approach Gervais. Jojo had called me after I had finished talking to Jazz but I told him Mother was under the weather and I had to look after her and would get back to him later. Although he was ok with it all I knew he would only be put off for so long and I really had to take care of Gervais as soon as possible for I didn’t want Jojo to run off with someone again before I could straighten stuff out.
I went to work and finally found Caspar sipping a latte while looking through a magazine his lips curled with disdain, as usual he did not appear to working, wanting to work or be harassed by any of his ladies. It was the perfect time to approach him about Gervais and I fussed about in the showroom worried that at any moment he would get a call from one of his ladies and so I started up a conversation. I asked him if he had known the Dubois family for long he sighed as if he had been expecting my question and told me he went to university with Gervais. I remarked that he had known Gervais for a long time and I guessed he had done a lot of stuff with Gervais to which he gave me a puzzled look before answering that he supposed so, yes. Trying to be casual like Gervais was and failing madly I said that Caspar must have seen Gervais in many moods which had Caspar now staring at me as if I were demented. Not knowing how to approach him and afraid he might construe my questions as romantic interest in Gervais, I continued quickly by asking what sort of thing Gervais did when he might be angry.
Caspar put his cup down very carefully and gave me the first direct look since he had hired me. He looked me firmly in the eyes and said “You should have taken the opportunity that came instead of messing with Gervais. Don’t get him angry for he will come after everything you love and take it away.” I tried to laugh it off saying no one had that much power but he just shook his head and walked into his office, closed the door, I guess he thought calling his girlfriends was a much more fun conversation.
A little later he went out with his sample book which was odd as I usually went with him on the first visit to a client to write up the instructions as he would save going alone for later so he could seduce them or have them seduce him. A few hours later I was shocked to see Liselle Dubois wander in alone and I checked behind her for some trace of Ladonna or Gervais but she was completely alone. Not wanting to be in the position of having to thaw a block of ice, I hurriedly told her that Caspar was not in and hoped she would leave before I wound up frozen to the floor. Liselle was unconcerned that Caspar was nowhere in sight and with her icy gaze firmly upon me said I was who she had come to speak to. If Ladonna was noisy and annoying, Gervais smarmy and creepy then Liselle was positively chilling.
Afraid of anyone else overhearing whatever she was going to scare me with I took her into Caspar’s office and closed the door as I didn’t want half the place gossiping about whatever Liselle was about to do to me. I had this dread that Gervais had sent her to do something nasty to me as I knew they were very close and very weird. Liselle sat in Caspar’s chair as if she owned it as she was one of those people who could make anything her own just by standing beside it. She had the supreme Dubois confidence and aloof indifference that made her presence scary as anything.
I waited for her to talk but she was in no hurry and she started by asking me if I was happy working with Caspar and my self preservation had me become guarded in my replies. I was not about to give her any ammunition and luckily hat appeared to be the extent of her small talk as she stood up while she let me know the purpose of her visit. She asked me why I wanted to know what Gervais was capable of when angry and my first reaction was one of wanting to slap Caspar for blabbing his big mouth, he must have called her the second I asked.
I realised this was my only chance to prepare for what was to come for even if she ran off to tell Gervais that I was about to piss him off I was still going ahead with my plan. Without going into details I told Liselle that I had made a deal with Gervais about something and now I didn’t want to do it anymore. She laughed this little laugh as if I had told her I was tired of the sky being blue and then she stopped smiling, her face becoming the cold hard Dubois look I knew so well.
She said there was no stopping whatever I was doing until Gervais had tired of it, or until I was his. I thought this was rude and told her I belonged to myself not some arrogant Dubois who had so much time on his hands he amused himself by tormenting girls. She came around from behind the desk and for a minute her face softened enough to look like a real person. She is taller than me so she looked down at me as if weighing something in her mind and I could see she was sorting the words in her mind before she spoke.
She first said what Caspar has said earlier, that I should have taken the way out that had been offered but I had no idea what they were on about and told her so. Then she said that Gervais could be vicious in ways I did not understand and if I tried to break a promise to him he would ensure I would pay dearly for the offence. I told Liselle that I was in love with someone and I wanted to see him and if I did then I would break the deal I had with Gervais. She shook her head at me and said that the minute I had made that deal I had lost my chance to walk away and I was his until he tired of me. I told her I was not his, not ever but it slipped over her as if I had not spoken at all. She picked up her purse and gazed coolly at me her humanity gone as quickly as it had come and her last words were that I had given me fair warning and that was all she could do. I didn’t tell her that as his sister she could do a lot more but there would be no point, Liselle Dubois had dismissed me and I no longer existed in her realm of interest.
