Romance Dead or Otherwise

Romance Dead or Otherwise

I went home after work tonight to discover Mother brimming with news of the latest gossip discovered when she had dinner at Sedero’s with Chantal who hated spending time alone now she had tossed Tony. While they were there Zizi and Osric Jones turned up for dinner and they were all over each other at the table not leaving much to the imagination. A waitress seeing them stare told Mother and Chantal that Zizi was flashing a huge engagement ring and Mother said that Jago was going to be furious as he had sent Zizi to Osric to kick start her singing career, not that she needed much help as she is an amazing singer, but for Osric to overstep the mark and get engaged is a bad move. I think that Zizi is doing this to annoy Jago for not acknowledging her in public and wants to rub it in, adding to the burden of dysfunction that family calls romance. Osric seems to go through lots of relationships, flings, engagements and accusations of infidelity, this is just one of many as he enjoys the gossip and avoids the commitment.

Simon was not pleased that I had decided to go home for a night but I pointed out that I had not seen Mother in days and soon would not be living there at all so I needed to give her some quality time to ease my departure. He cheered up when I asked him to chase up a few apartments that I thought were quite nice and after making a list, carefully writing out numbers, telling him what to ask, I thought I could trust him to sort it out and left him chatting on the phone.

Mother was all full of gossip, mostly from seeing people at Sedero’s, Elyce had dragged Royce there for some sort of intimate dinner and he looked miserable the entire time. I felt sorry for Royce but until he made some choices himself I was not about to help him. Mother went on to say that Chantal was worried about Jazz because she was not as excited about her job on the soap as she should be even though it was a small part it still gave her lots of local exposure. Lynx had been so busy with her sequential affairs that she didn’t have time to sabotage Jazz so the pressure had been taken off but the gossiping duo didn’t know how we had found Braith and Coco cosy at lunch.

As we had dinner Mother droned on her gossip meter in full swing and she fussed about everyone in town until I managed to tune her out until Jojo’s name was mentioned. His girlfriend’s pregnancy was now being queried by Chantal, following Taryn’s suit and made an appointment with her doctor to have a proper examination done. It seems odd that there was a spate of pregnancies in town, it must have had something to do with spring or the dreams of bimbos hoping to reel in a perpetual cash flow. I didn’t want to discuss Jojo and his girlfriend so I tried to deflect Mother from the subject by asking what was happening with Tony. She said that Chantal had never been happier and was busy having a little fling with Caspar Royale and I didn’t want to tell her that Caspar was probably having six other affairs at once as I did not want anymore drama heading our way. Mother said Caspar had been there having dinner with Gervais, Tim and another man. Chantal had wanted to know what was going on but Caspar brushed it off as old college friends having dinner but we know if Gervais was there it was anything but!

She asked if I had heard anything about Braith and Nadia but I told her I had no idea what was going on between them and I didn’t mention the Coco lunch as I really didn’t know what went on between them and Jazz was already bitter enough. Mother ended her gossip telling me that Tony had finished his fling with Cameo and was staying in an apartment they owned Northside so that would explain why he was sleazing in the restaurant when I went in with Jazz and I marveled at how he was as out of touch with his children as Jago was with his. The only good bit of news for the day was when I told Mother that I had left Simon chasing down apartments for us and she beamed at the mention of him. I knew she had been worried about the way Gervais had been stalking me for you would have to be blind not to notice his most unwelcome attentions so Simon must have been a great relief to a worried mother. I told her I was tired and went upstairs to bed, thankful that she her insanity was limited to a nightcap of gin or fluffy gossip and she was not having affairs all over town leaving me to cringe over her latest fling as a half insane mother is better than the full deal.
