Start->Chapter 4->Episode 13 To Gervais
Minus the frantic calls from insane or distraught friends I was able to get most of my work done in a relatively quiet day and even chatted a bit to the salesmen who generally kept their distance as being Simon’s girlfriend meant they kept their flirting for customers. Peter came in, looked over what I had done and professed himself amazed which made me wonder how he managed to run a successful business as I didn’t think I was going so well. Everything was in such a mess with duplicate files and mixed up files causing me to do things twice or even three times before I realised that the file had already been finalised earlier.
I went out to lunch with Jazz which was a complicated affair with me trying to keep away from the topic of her family so instead we did some speculation about the engagement between Royce and Elyce Dubois. We went to Millie’s but before entering Jazz noticed me looking around nervously so she said she would g do a “Gervais sweep” before we went in and if it was not so pathetic I would have laughed. I told her that it was horrible having to avoid him every place I went but he was not leaving me alone even when I had a boyfriend and a job he could not manipulate. Jazz said that it probably had been so long since Gervais had lost that he did not recognise when he had so it might take a little while for him to move on as the Dubois were not know for ever leaving well enough alone.
I felt a bit happier at the thought that Gervais might be moving onto green pastures and we spent most of our lunch chatting about everyone else’s problems instead of our own. One thing that bothered us both was the Zizi engagement thing for although she was as spiky as a cactus Zizi had been a friend to both of us when we had needed a friend and we decided we were going to do an Osric intervention. Jazz felt the same as me that Zizi was only seeing him to spite her father, but what we really wanted was an admission from the girl herself. So we decided to take Zizi out to dinner sometime this week and see what we could get out of her before we did some serious talking. I said I wished someone would give Gervais a Lucinda intervention but I feared we would only discover a decomposing body in the spring. This comment made Jazz stare at me as if I had lost my mind and I raised an eyebrow and said, “Live the life before you judge,” the thought of being stalked be Gervais had her shudder a quick no thanks.When I got back to work I found a message from Tiah but I did not reply as I thought it might be best to slowly work her out of my life for she was consuming too much of my time with her petty tantrums. After work Simon and I went out to dinner after checking out an apartment that suited us both and the prospect of us moving in together put him in a fantastic mood as he kept making plans about our life together. I kept nodding hoping he did not notice my lack of enthusiasm as I was a little nervous about the idea. We went for dinner at a little African place that had a menu full of strange but excellent food and service and I liked eating someplace other than our usual places. Everyone seemed to go to Sedero’s not for the food as much as it was the place to be seen.
We were nearly finished dinner when Simon who was telling me a story stopped speaking in mid sentence and I turned to see what had caught his attention. What caught his eye was Caspar, Tim and some guy I had never seen before all chummy and laughing while they waited for a table. They noticed Simon and Tim gave him a grin so evil it was worthy of Gervais and I knew something Dubois was about to happen. Simon summoned the waitress to get our bill and before I knew it we were driving home and I tried to ask him why all the fuss as I was fine about seeing Caspar in public as he couldn’t affect me anymore but all Simon would do was mutter something about a pack of vultures and wouldn’t explain anymore to me. This was the closest we had to an argument as I didn’t like being rushed out of someplace without an explanation and without finishing my dinner. Seeing I was not happy Simon relented and said that he was so angry at Caspar exposing me to Gervais that he was afraid to sit in the same place as him. I was touched by how protective he is and I kissed him for ages while we made up but in the back of my mind rested the wish that this town had somewhere we could go without being accosted by freaks.
