Start->Chapter 4->Episode 2 To Gervais
I woke up in a strange place and sat up in fright, then I heard Simon whistling in the kitchen and I remembered where I was. I looked around and wondered what I should do, if I should wait there for him as I wanted to go out but I was afraid to face him and I was both afraid he would want me to leave, afraid he would want me to stay. My dilemma was solved when Simon came in with a big grin holding coffee and toast. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and he plunked himself beside me in the bed and tried to cuddle me while I was drinking coffee and balancing toast on my knee. Whatever fears I had vanished while we chatted and I relaxed back into his welcoming arms. He asked me what my plans were and I told him I didn’t know as I had never searched for a job as people kept offering them to me and I had left them just as quickly. Now that I was used to working it felt odd not having some place to go a thought that would have pleased Mother greatly had she known my reluctance to remain unemployed.
Simon tickled me and said we were going to have to fix that but I didn’t pay much attention as my phone rang and I picked it up with a sense of guilt fearing it could be Mother wondering where I had vanished to but it was a number I did not recognise. I answered it surprised to find myself speaking to Cameo Larsen of all people. She was not one for niceties and got straight to the point which was that she had heard I left Caspar in less than fortunate circumstances which made me blanch, did everyone know, and she was wondering if I might by any chance have Caspar’s client list on hand. I asked her what would I being doing with that and she sort of fussed for a bit saying I might want to exact a bit of revenge by passing it on which made me furious and I told her I was not interested so then she got nasty saying she would think I was tired of losing jobs and could make a nice bit of money. I asked her sweetly if she had ever considered marrying Gervais as she was a bitch and would match him nicely then hung up on her. Simon chuckled at my temper and gave me a big hug saying that part of my life was over now and I could put it all behind me.
It was hard to stay angry when wrapped up in his arms as he was so big, protective, keeping me safe and happy and I snuggled in against him. Later on he took me home to change and I tried to creep past mother in her sitting room but she called us in and if she had noticed me in the same clothes as yesterday she did not say a single word about it. She greet Simon warmly and I left them chatting like old friends and when I came back down I could see that Simon liked how I looked, to be honest I had hoped for his reaction. I had brushed my hair til it shone and wore the prettiest dress I could find as it had been a long time since I had wanted to be pretty for someone.
We said a quick goodbye to Mother and when we drove out Simon said we were going to meet someone. I tried to get out of him where we were going but he wouldn’t give me any idea until we drove into the huge car lot that was owned by his father. I asked Simon why we were there although it was good he was talking to his father again and he gave me a tight little smile saying things can change when it was needed. He took my hand and brought me into the huge showroom filled with the latest sleek sports offerings while his father came out of the office to greet us.
Simon’s father was a big mountain like Simon, but where Simon was fair with laughing blue eyes, Peter was dark with piercing brown eyes. He shook my hand and gave Simon a cool nod and then ushered us both into his office and whatever truce they had seemed to be pretty rocky but when Simon put his hand on my shoulder I could see his father’s entire body relax in relief and he even let a tiny smile out.
He started out telling me that his secretary had left to have a baby and that all his paperwork was getting behind at first I wondered why he was telling us all of this when I caught a look between him and Simon. They had planned something and no one had bothered to tell me which appeared to be typical of my life, I was perpetually out of the loop. I folded my arms and gave Simon a stern look which he deflected with his charming smile as he said that his father really could use some help and I could use a job that was did not put me in the company of lunatics. The fact that he was right did not make this any better so I turned to his father for support but instead found the same charming smile.
I then realised that these two teamed up would be an irresistible force and there was not point in trying to argue, especially if I was going to be the link that brought this family together again, neither would be letting me go quite so easily. I resigned myself to the inevitable asking when did I start and I could see the happiness radiate from both as filled the office. Later that day I asked Simon why he didn’t go work for his father now he was unemployed and he told me that he didn’t have to work as his mother had left him a large trust fund he just did something to keep himself healthy. I understood what he meant as I liked having someplace to go every day that was my own and now I was going to a large car yard in the centre of town for my next adventure in job land.
