Start->Chapter 4->Episode 6 To Gervais
I settled in to working with Simon’s father with ease as he is a nice man who was educated and self made. He told me that Simon had done business and accounting at university in order to take over the business but he never elaborated as to why they had a falling out. He would ask about how we met or what Simon had been doing in an offhand way as if he was concealing his interest in his son and I tried to stay to the more positive sides of Simon’s life. I did not explain about Gervais, as I did not want to scare him so I was vague about our meeting only saying that that Simon had rescued me from a bad situation and we had become friends and then started to go out. He smiled at the going out bit and looked like he wanted to ask more but kept his distance, like father, like son.
Simon and I were getting into a very happy routine of work with me staying over at his place most of the time and finally we decided to get out of the house and socialise for a bit despite Gervais and his stalking. Jazz and Coco found out about him when they went to Zebub’s and caught us snuggling in the corner and while Coco gave me a look as if I was betraying Jojo, Jazz seemed happy enough to move on from our past.
I was surprised to see Zizi come in as she had been kept very busy by Osric doing live songs at the various clubs in town as she making a name for herself. Zizi joined us and soon several tables were pushed together as our group grew to seven or eight other people most of whom were gawking the new superstar of the town. It was a nice night that was nearly perfect until the unexpected appearance of Gervais with Elyce on his arm brought the dark cloud of Dubois with them. Elyce, like Liselle managed to return even more stunning than she left and her ethereal beauty had the entire male population of the club stop to stare, Simon included. I kicked him under the table which made him grin and he whispered in my ear that he liked his women to be alive which made me giggle while pretending to frown.
Elyce did look a bit like the queen of the undead with her pale silvery blonde hair, ice green eyes that were a family trait of the Dubois and Gervais was enjoying her effect on everyone, even flashing me a triumphant look as if to let me know he was going to unleash her upon Royce. I didn’t care what his nefarious plans were as I had Simon and life was calm and happy so Gervais could do whatever he liked as he was not my burden to carry anymore. I slipped my arm through Simon’s and returned his triumphant look with one of cool victory and I knew my arrow had hit it’s mark when Gervais eyes narrowed into a glare.
Coco paled at the sight of Elyce as she knew this was another barrier to her reuniting with Royce for Coco was under the impression that Royce was going to wake up, see the error of his ways and return to her. Jazz and I tried to talk her out of this as we felt she was deluding herself but we refrained from setting Zizi’s caustic tongue onto her as Coco was a bit fragile from the break up. After a few minutes everything returned to normal and I even forgot the evil Dubois were there and enjoyed the rest of the night dancing and chatting with my friends.
I left with Simon after asking Jazz to make sure Coco got home. On the drive home I thought now that everything was quiet and low key perhaps everyone was finally over the drama and we could get on with our lives but I was deceiving myself. We went upstairs to the apartment to discover someone had thrown garbage on the doorstep and painted whore on the door. I stood there stunned while Simon dissolved into a fury threatening Gervais with everything under the sun and he was just about to call the police when I stopped him. I told him that I didn’t think this was the work of Gervais, it was too crass, too full of vulgar aggression and Gervais was a man of controlled fury, he would have bided his time and done something with elegant cruelty. This garbage thrown is like someone who came to find us home and had a tantrum because we were not there.
After he cooled down Simon agreed with and said he would ask the neighbours if they saw anything but we knew this was unlikely. We locked the place up tight and as we lay in bed I wondered why the simple act of me having a boyfriend was enough to bring the psychos out of the sewers for surely people in this town had better things to do. Another day in the mad world I call my life.
