Start->Chapter 4->Episode 7 To Gervais
Today the gossip hit the entire town with the topic being Mr. Bianca Sangu who was not as obtuse as everyone had thought and discovered the little fling or obsession that Bianca was having with Caspar so he threw her out, cursing like a sailor into the street without her jewelry box or credit cards. Bianca did what any dumped housewife would do, she ran straight to Caspar for support but Caspar unable to cope with the thought of Bianca in situ bolted like the worthless cad he is and left her fuming in the office. When she got the message that Caspar was not about to engage in a faux pas that would have the husbands of half the town close their wallets to him, Bianca then stormed down to Alexis Sarant, the meanest divorce lawyer in town and promptly told her where all the bodies were buried.
Alexis was a trophy wife who had been dumped by her tycoon husband during a routine upgrade. Finding herself in the same position as her predecessor and firmly of the belief don’t get mad, get even, She managed to delay all her settlements for years until she finished a law degree then subsequently fleeced her husband for a mint. Ever since then she has spent every waking moment obliging the wives who found themselves in the same situation when their husbands traded up.
Once Bianca had set foot into Alexis’ office the entire town was getting ready for a battle royal and someone must have whispered in the ear of Mr. Sangu that if was not familiar with the work of Alexis he should perhaps consider the current plight of a few companies who were struggling to meet their legal obligations to the ex-spouses of several owners. Mr. Sangu reconsidered his reaction and the potential loss of millions to a marriage without the protection of a pre-nup and reconciled with Bianca in the form of a new Mercedes and the promise of another party to be done only by Cameo Larsen.
The entire drama was played out to me via several phone calls which had Peter come in and ask what was up and I found myself a bit reluctant to tell him the gossip as I was afraid he would think that was all I did all day, as I had been getting more calls than usual and he might not have noticed the great bulk of work I had done on the computer. However soon after I started he was rolling his eyes and laughing at the entire incident saying he said he wondered when the Mr. was going to get fed up with her antics. I got the impression that although he knew what everyone in town was up to he didn’t really have much use for the society types as I guess he had to keep pleasant relations with them so they would buy his very expensive cars.
His showroom had pristine luxury cars that lounged on rotating marble stands with plush velvet carpet under them. The lighting was always kept discreet and the salesmen talked in hushed respectful voices unless they were selling Porsches to a stupid young exec then it was all patting the car like it was a girl’s bum and talking about what she would do for them, his salesmen were good and could size up what each particular sale needed to make a close and I was amazed at how many closes they had in a day.
Mother had an old Mercedes that Father had bought before he died and she kept it for whatever reasons makes someone keep an old car. I always loved driving in it as it cruised around like a big comfy sofa and when I told Peter that I didn’t think the new cars matched up to the old ones he went ‘shhhhhh’ behind his finger and said not to let them know, nodding towards his customers. He made me giggle in the cheeky way that Simon did and I could see where Simon got most of his charm from.
That night I regaled Simon with the Sangu drama causing him to laugh at the thought of Bianca dumping her life onto Caspar and we went through the various old boods who would have heart attacks if their precious Caspar was taken from their gnarled grasp. I tried to get him to open up about his father as I was curious as to why they had been apart for so long, it was not a usual circumstance to have the son of a local millionaire with a university degree shifting boxes for an event designer. Simon in his deft way of avoiding any subject he had no interest in pursuing changed the subject in a tone that told me he was not going to discuss it so I let it go. I was aware that our relationship had somehow mended some bridge between he and his father and I was happy that our happiness had spilled over into being a family happiness. I lay back in his arms and hoped that joy of this moment would last forever and if I was lucky Gervais was dead in a ditch someplace.
