Start->Chapter 5->Episode 14 To Gervais

Overt covert chat

The first thing I did today was get hold of Jazz and make her meet me at Djini’s for coffee. I had no idea what Gervais was up to and I didn’t want to alarm her so I was going to get her to talk about every single plan she had for her wedding to see just where Gervais could interfere. Since the reception and food was being taken care of by Chantal I knew he couldn’t do much there as she would ensure she had everything supplied well in advance. I considered Braith and the winery but I think the winery like Sedero’s is one of the few places Gervais might not have a hand in. Although I could be totally wrong and he could own both, one never knew with a Dubois.

Like the bad fairy she was, no sooner had I thought the name Dubois than I spied Liselle sitting at the back of the café freezing anything that dared come within her personal distance. She could make a reptile seem warm blooded and I decided that since I had invited myself to her table before I might as well keep up the habit to see if she had any idea about Gervais. Considering what he had done with Tiah and that his actions had managed to break up her affair with Jago I thought that she might be open to thwarting Gervais a little herself.

Liselle didn’t bother looking up when I sat down, in fact she was doing her best to ignore my existence and for a second I found her studied denial of me sitting across from her amusing. I leaned back against the seat and folded my arms staring at her while she gazed off into the distance. She was for her age, a remarkably beautiful woman, she still turned heads when she entered a room and no man, young or mature would have turned her down. The only clue that I was having an affect on her was the hostile glitter in her cold green eyes and while six months ago this would have frightened me to death, after six months of Gervais I was quite ready to battle the entire clan if that is what it took to rid my life of him.

Expecting Jazz at any second I gave up on the waiting game and told her I was not going to leave as we had things to discuss which caused her to turn her artic gaze to me and give me the benefit of her glare but I was becoming immune to her glacial beauty and stared back coolly. “I do not recall there being any business between us, ” she replied, her elegant voice devoid of emotion and I had to admire the front she put on. To anyone who was not familiar with her she would appear completely detached from the situation, bored even by my presence but I knew far better for the glitter of anger darkened her eyes and her mouth stayed in a tight line after speaking.

I told her that Gervais had been attacking my friends one by one in order to get to me and did not care who was hurt in the fallout. She remained silent so I continued that he didn’t even care if his actions affected his own family members causing Liselle to smile a smile that only a corpse could manage as she said Gervais had never been concerned who was affected by his actions family or stranger alike. I suggested that perhaps if she knew of any of his future plans it could be a time to bring some equality to the situation by preventing them from coming to fruition.

Liselle shrugged as if the matter held little interest to her and I got up to leave as there was no point arguing. I said what I had come to say and now it was up to her if she wanted to help me and as I turned to leave she said she had warned me of this many months ago. I smiled back at her, not her smile of glacial contempt but her brothers smile of genuine amusement and I replied that her months ago I was not able to fight back but now I was the most dangerous person in his life. For once Liselle looked confused and asked me what I meant. “Why my dear Liselle,” I purred “I have nothing left to lose.” I left her with those words as Jazz had entered the café and I didn’t want her to see me consorting with a Dubois especially when I was about to grill her about her every detail of her wedding. I knew she would be happy to chat about her plans and from that I could only hope to find a clue to the next move of Gervais.

Jazz lived up to expectations prattling on for the next two hours and three cups of coffee about every single detail of her wedding to Braith. There had been a bit of a tussle over who was going to host what at first Taryn was determined to host it and got Caspar all set up, then Chantal was determined and put forth a good case of her and Cameo to do it. In the end Jazz managed a huge compromise with Taryn doing the engagement parties and Chantal hosting the wedding with both Caspar and Cameo attending to the design and details. I shuddered at the thought of them working together but Jazz said they did remarkably well, in fact so well that they were speaking of joining their businesses. A great lot of good that would do them I thought as both spent most of their time in bed with their clients. Jazz continued her descriptions happily but there was nothing that stood out as an opportunity for Gervais.

Jazz was leaving the café to go back to work for now Lynx had her own show her role had been bumped up in the soap and she said she had been getting noticed by a few agents as offers were starting to trickle in. I was pleased for her success but could not offer her my full attention because Liselle’s lunch guest had arrived and I watched to my great surprise as Mr. Bianca Sangu sat down at her table. Jazz had not seen him come in or she would have cringed for I know she had laid down the law and told her mother in no uncertain terms was he to show up at her wedding but Chantal was no fool and assured her daughter there would be no problem. For once Liselle was not detached and I watched as she and Mr. Sangu leaned towards each other in earnest chat. I wondered what it took to get Liselle Dubois to actually partake in a conversation as it must be something big, like a porn empire.
