Start->Chapter 6->Episode 4 To Gervais
Simon came over early today, with the lure of hot pastries, fresh gossip and when his gorgeous blue eyes met mine I found my entire body misting with the pangs of a long suppressed desire. It had been the first time since our parting that I had been able to look at him without seeing Gervais but my little charade yesterday had changed my perspective of life significantly and now maybe I could finally separate the man from his past. We had breakfast on the terrace while enjoying the sun and I found myself wandering away from his words as I admired the lithe, athletic body lounging across from me. Simon was beautiful in a masculine, solid way, unlike Jojo who was beautiful in the tormented, darling boy way, Gervais on the other hand had managed to keep his attractiveness a secret, instead preferring to use smarmy as his cosmetic. One rarely saw the Dubois beauty of the men in our family but it was glimpsed here and there, like a shadow crossing a dark plain. I closed Gervais out of my mind and took to admiring Simon, knowing it was leading me down a dangerous path.
If Simon thought distracting me with the woes of others was a good way to avoid a confrontation he was right for I was in no mood for any preaching about my behaviour towards my family. He started with the Taryn and Jago show, after the little tape affair and Jazz locking Braith out of her life the poor disgraced bastard was sent where everyone sends their errant children, on a little holiday abroad. At first Braith had flatly refused to leave until Royce of all people took him aside and said that if he wanted to ever be with Jazz again this was the best way to make it happen as she could not even look in his direction anymore. We all knew that Gervais had set Braith up, he looked completely drunk or drugged in the video and seemed dazed and confused throughout while the girls were put on a show worthy of the camera. I did not have any great knowledge of porn but I certainly had enough sense to know when I was not looking at it. Despite the realities Jazz was going through and what I had gone through with Simon, I found the ability to part emotion from fact was sometimes just not possible and right now Braith could not be a part of her life. Although I did not refer to Simon personally as I explained how Jazz was feeling, I knew he was intelligent enough to apply my comments to our past relationship. I watched him tense slightly and then as I reached out and gave his hand a quick squeeze, his face flooded with colour as if he was entering a warm room after being lost in the cold.
Keeping the tone light Simon continued with the Tony and Chantal charade, which was quite a remarkable show at the best of times but now was becoming cartoonish in it’s sequels. You would think that the despair of their daughter would be enough to keep these two philandering fools from wreaking even more havoc upon the lives of those around them but their brief sojourn into the reluctant porn of their once soon to be son in law did nothing to slow down this disaster on wheels. For a change it was not Tony but Chantal who was stepping out and with none other than her old partner in lust, but Caspar Royale. I knew that Caspar was not in this affair for the joy of Chantal’s shrieking, he was using the vocal restauranteur as screen from the ever demanding Cameo. While merging their businesses seemed like good economic sense at the time it was proving to be more of a bete noir for Caspar than he could ever have imagined. Cameo, with the wisdom that comes with someone on the make her entire life decided that joining business meant upcoming nuptials and has been planning for the dream wedding despite Caspar’s total lack of proposal. She would chase him about town and berate him for seducing his clientele, pointedly oblivious to the fact that she was guilty of the exact same behaviour, even having a little fling with Lynx at one time, therefore matching him in both sleaze and ease. Caspar knew that whatever balls Cameo had it stopped short of taking on Chantal for surprisingly after Gervais it was she and not Jago who was the most powerful force in the town.
Simon moved carefully onto Gervais and for a second time stopped as I waited for him to comment about my little episode in the parking lot but he left his remarks at how quiet he had been lately. Liselle and Jago had been seen doing their furtive thing around town, with an absent Taryn which meant she was either shopping or plaguing some new escort with her woes. Taryn used men more as objects to carry things than romantic encounters and I think half the time men have affairs with her just for the privilege of being in the inner circle for a while. If you were in her good books it guaranteed entry into the most exclusive parties and clubs where most of the high powered wheeling and dealing took place. I relaxed as Simon moved on and I could tell by how he did not meet my eyes that he had been testing the waters by bringing up my infamous cousin. He asked me in a very pointed fashion why Elyce had taken to darkening my doorstep but I left that with a muttered “family affection” which would have had him burst out laughing if it had been any other family than the Dubois.I became aware of Maritka hovering in the corner trying to get my attention so I walked over wondering why she was not speaking in front of Simon as she was usually very fond of him. She told me her sister’s car had broken down and she was going to go help her as her command of English was worse than hers. Personally I felt that if her sister scowled half as much as Maritka did then she would probably find it difficult to locate anyone to help her. I told her to go help her sister to which she nodded in Simon’s direction and asked if I was going to be good with Mr. Simon still there. I had to laugh as I had no idea what gave her this idea saying I would be fine and she left but not without a final scowl. Simon asked about the fuss and I explained how she was reluctant to leave me with him as he was such a corrupting influence. Simon chuckled, his teeth and hair gleaming in the sunlight and again I was possessed with an attraction that would not leave me alone.
I got up to clear the table and he rose quickly to help me, his form filling the space between us and my heart started to pound at his close proximity. My face must have flushed for he asked if I was alright but I could only nod finding my voice strangely absent. We both reached for the last dish and as his hand brushed mine a sharp jolt of desire flashed through my entire body and I saw his eyes electric from the unspoken lust between us, silent and consuming it stopped time as we stood poised to act. It was less than a second, less than a moment, less than a breath when he reached over and scooped me into his arms while his burning kisses had no boundaries as he took possession of my mouth. I could feel his body against mine, so overwhelming in size and hardening in response to the little moan fluttering in my throat. We barely made it inside the drawing room where once private from the world we exploded into the desire we had both been denying, and I allowed myself the pleasure of him back into my life. I knew what I was doing was wrong as I knew he could not return to what we were and I knew that when this was over I would have to leave him again. Not only to protect us but also to protect him from my future, however at that second I did not care, for maybe I was an evil Dubois as the only thing that mattered were his lips upon mine.
